Dance of the Planets 2013 begins May 24th in the evening sky
OMG! Is that a tightly packed cluster of alien ships invading our atmosphere?
Relax, it’s just one of nature’s astronomical treats for those who take the time to look up into the evening sky every now and then.
The Dance of the Planets begins tonight, May 24th, and is when Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury (the three brightest planets in the night sky) will all appear to be very close to each other.
Each evening the planets will be in different (but still very close) positions to each other, giving the appearance that they are dancing around each other from day to day.
The planets will be closest to each other in their “dance” from May 24th to 29th. So close, in fact, there will most definitely be some planetary bumpin’ and grindin’ happening on that cosmic dance floor.

Nice!

Nice job, Park Tool!

Shout out to Park Tool. Yesterday our editor-in-chief spoke with them regarding a warranty issue on one of their bicycle scales he was having a problem with and they said, “If you promise to recycle it, you won’t have to bother with sending it back, and we’ll just send you a new one.”

They said that not knowing they were talking to a green digital media editor.

Excellent customer service and gentle encouragement to reduce e-waste. Keep it up!

How much water are you really using? Many of us have low flow shower heads and our toilets are using less water, but how does that compare to the water that goes into the things we use and consume every day?

Don’t miss the debut of Comet PanSTARRS this week
2013 has been unofficially dubbed “The year of the comets” (and asteroids too, apparently).
The first of those comets has been putting on a show in the Southern Hemisphere recently, and is not making it’s debut in the Northern Hemisphere.

Geek chic: DIY R2D2 high heels
Geeks can be fashionistas too.
The Instructables author of this DIY project says,
“These R2D2 shoes are the hottest thing this side of Tatooine and they’re cooler than Hoth.
The wide heel of these shoes was removed and replaced with a steel bolt to provide strength and support, but at a fraction of the size. An R2D2 toy covers the heel bolt, and the toes have been decorated with lenses, blue accents, and a blinking red LED to let everyone know just how this droid rolls.”
This project, while epic and totally awesome, will take more than the average DIY femme. Why? Because, in addition to others, the tools list includes:
MIG welder
soldering iron
propane torch
rotary tool
electric drill
Nevertheless, what better way to man your R2D2 barbecue grill or implement some Storm Trooper rodent controlthan in these high heels? May the force be with you.

Cinch: A minimalist wallet with a ton of space
Thick, bulky, leather — or worse, velcro — wallets are so passé.
Minimalist is the way to go.
Your back, butt, and bank roll will thank you.
I’ve carried a “front-pocket” wallet for several years. Mine is an ingenious stainless steel wallet with a money clip on one side and a card slot on the other, capable of holding about 5 cards.
It’s nice, but it could be better. I’m glad I found the Cinch Kickstarter project.
